A few years ago, after I had gathered so much research on distress and perfectionism, I was trying to think of ways that I could take the academic literature and share it with families and individuals who live and work in the trenches of family life in our technologically driven world.

I had been thinking about a podcast for awhile, AND I’d been thinking of trying to find a project that I could work on with my kiddos. Joining up with Kori on this project seemed a perfect fit! There has been a lot of lessons learned in my life, but all of them have been made more valuable with my kids by my side. Truth be told, I could easily attribute all of my strength and wisdom to lessons learned from my kids.

Our vision for working together on a podcast was to help bridge the gap that often stands in the way of parents and their children from truly connecting. There has always been this belief that the older generation is, somehow, shocked by the beliefs, behaviors, and attitudes of the younger generation.

This episode of our podcast, Part 1 of The Zeitgeist Life, focuses on looking at experiencing life within the lens of the culture, age, and era that we are currently living in. We cannot expect our children to act, believe, and prioritize their lives based on the events of the Great Depression.

To truly understand one another, especially when there is a generation gap, we have to consider the experiences of life within the possibilities and cultural realities of the current moment. I think this can be extremely difficult if we hold to really rigid ways of thinking and believing.

In this episode, Kori asks me to share some of my experiences with looking outside of my own upbringing to see the beauty in the broken molds and scripts that today’s youth are bringing to the cultural table. I share the story of the most simple, yet the most profound shift in my thinking; a time when someone saw my pain and met it with love! I also talk a little about the social shame that sometimes comes from kids that break scripts and how, for parents, this can take some time to learn to navigate.

I hope you enjoy the episode and, truly hope you receive the gift of vision that you might need to be open and available for the spirit of the times~

May you Live and Love, Free and Full
